The Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching Program is designed for persons seeking entry-level jobs in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry or who need to meet basic requirements to obtain more specialized ICT skills. The CCNA Routing and Switching Program covers topics in the field of networks in a broad and integrated fashion, from basic aspects to advanced applications and services, while providing opportunities for obtaining practical experience and developing professional skills.

Objetivos

The program is intended to provide knowledge and build the skills students need to be able to offer their services to companies located in the information technologies and computer network market, assisting in network installation, implementation, and preventive and corrective maintenance.

The CCNA Routing and Switching Program provides extensive coverage of network-related issues, from the basics to advanced applications and services, with opportunities for real-world practice to provide experience and promote the development of professional skills.

Students will be prepared to take the Cisco CCENT certification exam after completing a series of two courses, and the CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam after completing a series of four courses.

Perfil profesional

Upon completion of the program students will be able to install, configure and operate routed and switched Local Area Networks (LAN) and routed Wide Area Networks (WAN), and will be able to work as network technicians, technical support engineers, network administrators, network designers, network engineers, among other options.

The CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum consists of four courses. Students will receive preparation for the Cisco CCENT certification exam after completing a series of two courses, and preparation for the CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam after completing a series of four courses. The curriculum will also allow students to develop skills that prepare them to get a job and lay the foundations for success in careers and programs related to networks.

The four recommended courses that make up the sequence of CCNA routing and switching are: 1) Introduction to networks, 2) Basic principles of routing and switching, 3) Network scaling and 4) Network connection. In each course, Cisco Networking Academy students will learn technological concepts with the support of interactive media, and practice this knowledge through a series of practical and simulated activities that reinforce their learning.

The Routing and Switching CCNA course teaches concepts and skills of integrated networks, from network applications to the protocols and services that the lower layers of the network provide to those applications. Later in the curriculum, students will advance from basic network models to more complex business and theoretical models.

Features of CCNA Routing and Switching.

Students learn the basics of routing, switching and advanced technologies to prepare themselves for Cisco CCENT and CCNA certification exams, and professional careers in entry-level networks.

  • The language used to describe network concepts is designed to be easily understood by students at all levels, and the interactive activities integrated in the courses help reinforce understanding.
  • The courses emphasize critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and practical application of skills.
  • Multimedia learning tools, such as videos, games and questionnaires, address different learning styles and help stimulate learning and promote greater knowledge retention.
  • Lab practices and simulation-based learning activities in Cisco® Packet Tracer help students develop critical thinking and skills to solve complex problems.
  • The included examinations provide an immediate overview that assists in assessing acquired knowledge and skills.

Course rationale

According to a recent study by Gardner, 50% of the demand for technical personnel in information and communication technologies in Costa Rica is not being satisfied. The course is designed to meet the demand for specialized technical resources in the area of information technologies, developing practical knowledge of routing and switching, network applications, protocols and services.

Methodology

Short lecture sessions, individual study and practical activities.
