The Master's program in Highway Engineering is taught in two formats: professional and academic, and is focused in three fundamental areas:

  • Highway design.
  • Materials and construction.
  • Highway management.

These three blocks are complemented by a fourth block that includes applied research to solve problems or generate more knowledge about highway engineering.

The program is taught in 6 blocks of 4 months each, for an estimated duration of two years.

The teaching staff is highly trained and has extensive professional experience in the area of highway engineering.

Schedule: The courses are taught from Monday to Friday at night, and on Saturdays in the morning, at the Tecnológico campus in Cartago, and in other locations in San José.

Applications for admission will be received between February 10 and June 15, 2020.

The faculty is distinguished by being professors with extensive academic and professional experience.

Benefit for the country

The national highway infrastructure requires highway engineering professionals who can properly apply their knowledge to solve problems when planning, designing, building, operating and providing maintenance for highways, bridges and complementary works in highway projects.

Currently, management and administration of resources for the improvement of the existing highway network is inadequate, and decision making when selecting the best strategy to solve technical problems is inefficient.

The objective of the postgraduate professional program is to create professionals who are familiar with the use of techniques, strategies and tools for the solution of these and other problems affecting the sector.

The academic program will graduate professionals who can work as educators and can pass their advanced knowledge to new generations of engineers in the highway infrastructure  and other sectors.

The postgraduate program is intended to promote research in highway engineering, generating more knowledge to contribute to the region’s development through improved planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of highways, bridges and complementary works.
